Body Lifts:

A well toned body is usually a sign of fitness; however, some people are unable to achieve this appearance secondary to loose, sagging or excess skin. Body lifts are procedures used to contour areas of the body where the quality and tone of skin has changed as a result of weight loss, pregnancies, heredity, or the natural aging process. Body lifts are designed individually for patients to address their areas of concern. The most common areas are the abdomen (abdominoplasty), sides or buttocks (posterior body lifts or buttock lift), arms (brachioplasty), and thighs (thigh lifts).

During consultation you will be assessed whether your goals can be achieved with localized fat reduction with smartlipo, loose skin resection and/or muscle tightening.

Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) addresses the loose skin and diastasis (separation) of the muscles in the belly. There are multiple variations of tummy tucks for which we will apply the best one to fit your goals.

Posterior Body lifts addresses the loose skin in lower back and sides. This can be combined with the tummy tuck to create a circumferential body lift. Most commonly this is a contouring procedure performed on patients after significant weight loss.

Buttock lift addresses the sagging of the gluteal (buttock) region. Fat transfer to the buttock can be combined to this procedure to increase the volume of the buttock.

Thigh lifts addresses the loose skin of the thighs seen after weight loss or liposuction. Smartlipo is typically performed at the same time as this procedure to ensure maximum amount of thigh reduction as well as removal of loose skin. The inner and/or outer thigh can be lifted by various techniques. Thigh lift surgery reduces the skin and fat resulting in a better contour and smoother skin.

Brachioplasty, arm lift, addresses the “bat-wing” appearance of the upper arm. Smartlipo is performed at the same time to reduce the volume of the upper arm.

The abdominoplasty, posterior body lift, circumferential body lift, buttock lift and thigh lifts are designed to hide the scar under low cut jean, undergarments or bathing suits. The brachioplasty scar can be placed between the back side of the arm (posterior) and the lower biceps muscle (bicepital grove).

Where is my body lift procedure performed?

These procedures are performed at our fully accredited office surgical suite in the Ballantyne Village. These are outpatient procedures performed in a safe and friendly environment, usually with twilight anesthesia, no general anesthesia required.

What to expect post-operatively?

Typically, we do not place any drains. Post-operatively, you will be placed in compression garments. These are to be worn for 2 to 4 weeks. We will want you walking on the evening of your operation and to continue to walk 3-4 times daily to prevent certain potential complications and speed your recovery. You will notice immediately a reduction in your loose skin and volume in your select area; however, the final result will take months. You should be able to return to light activity at 1 week.

Breast Lifts:

Aging, pregnancy, and weight loss can change the skin tone and elasticity of the breast creating sagging (breast ptosis). This is a problem that plaques all women of various ages. A breast lift (mastopexy) is a procedure designed to re-create a more youthful breast shape and form. The areola, the pigment skin around the nipple, can be reduced at the same time.

A breast lift repositions a woman’s natural breast tissue into a more youthful position. It does not increase the volume of breast tissue. If a patient desires increased volume as well, a breast augmentation can be performed at the same time.

Where are my scars?

There are 3 main types of breast lift incisions. The first is an incision around the areola, the dark pigment skin around the nipple. The second is a “loli-pop” incision, an incision around the areola and vertically down. The third is an “anchor” type incision, an incision around the areola, vertically down, and horizontally across at the fold under the breast. The scar type is determined by the amount of lift that needs to be performed. The options will be discussed at the time of consultation.

What should I expect after a breast lift?

After the surgery, you will placed in sterile dressings and support bra. The breast will swell after the surgery and over time the swelling will decrease and the incisions should fade. The pain associated with the procedure is mild to moderate. You will be prescribed oral pain medications which should control the pain. No strenuous activity or elevating the arms above the head should be performed until released by your surgeon. You should be able to get back to light activity within a week.
